Type Locality and Naming

By the Peshkout ridge, northern foothills of the Alay ridge. A.I. Goncharov et al. in 1960 (176, p. 20). Under the same name, R.R.Usmanov identified similar deposits at the western end of the Turkestan ridge.

Synonym: Peshkout Suite, Пешкаутская св.


Lithology and Thickness

In the South-Fergana region, oolitic, organogenic, clastic limestones with layers of dolomite-limestone rocks. At the base – limestone conglo-breccias. Thickness 200-600m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It lies in a continuous section or transgressively on the Alay Gr. In the Turkestan ridge, the boundaries are normally stratigraphic (165; 460).

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the Gaz Fm of the Andygen Gr. In the Turkestan ridge, the boundaries are normally stratigraphic (165; 460).

Regional extent

Foothills of the Alay ridge, S. Fergana, western end of the Turkestan ridge.

Fossils

Contains foraminifera - Eostaffella mosquensis Viss., E. parastruvei Raus., Howchinia Gibba (Moell.); brachiopods - Davisiella comoides Sow., Martinia glabra (Mart.), Gigantoproductus giganteus (Mart.), Striatifera striata (Fisch.), Marginifera schartimiensis Jan., Antiquatonia insculpta (M.-W.); corals - Lithostrotion caespitosum Mart.


Age 

The complex of organic remains is characteristic of the Visean and Serpukhovian stages of the Lower Carboniferous. The age of the suite is dated within the Visean-Serpukhovian epochs of the Early Carboniferous. In the Strat. sl. (439) it is attributed to the Visean stage.
